Police seize cigarettes, liquors worth about RM1.8 mln

Limbang Marine Police arrested a local man after they raided a house at Taman Sentosa. The house was a warehouse for contrabands.

LIMBANG: The Marine Police here crippled a contraband smuggling syndicate and seized various duty-unpaid cigarettes and liquors worth around RM1.8 million on Nov 5.

The team acting on intelligence gathered raided a terrace house used as a warehouse to store the uncustomed goods at Taman Sentosa.

Sarawak Marine Police Region Five commander ACP Zulfikar Mohd Ghazali said they arrested a local man for contravention of the Customs Act 1967.

Numerous boxes of contraband goods worth RM1,888,176 were found inside the house and in a parked van.

The arrestee and the contraband were taken to Limbang police criminal investigating officer for processing.

Last Nov 2, the Bintulu Marine Police and Mukah police seized various duty-unpaid cigarettes and beers worth RM143,845 from a house at Jalan Pam Stesen Lama.

Zulfikar said the house owner was not present during the raid when the police found goods inside two stores in front of the house.

The contrabands were handed over to Mukah police criminal investigating officer for further action under the Customs Act 1967.
