GEORGE TOWN: An investigation paper on the death of a Special Branch policeman, who was believed to have fallen from a hotel building in Pulau Tikus on Dec 17, is almost ready, said Penang police chief Datuk Seri A Thaiveegan.
He said police were only waiting for the report from the Chemistry and Forensic Department to complete the investigation paper on the incident, which led to the death of Corporal Sofian Shahari, 47.
“I believe we can complete it soon because we have made it our priority. So far, we have recorded statements from 15 people, including five policemen, who were at the scene of the incident.
“We may call in a few more witnesses, who are civilians, to have their statements recorded,” he told reporters after attending the launch of Malaysia’s first facial recognition technology via closed circuit television (CCTV) by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow at Komtar here yesterday.
In the incident, which happened at about 4.45am, the victim’s body was found by a hotel worker in a car park in front of the hotel.
The victim, who had been with the Royal Malaysian Police for more than 19 years, was believed to have gone to a karaoke centre to celebrate the birthday of a colleague from the Penang Police Headquarters. – Bernama
