MARUDI: Police are stepping up patrols to assure residents they would be keeping an eye on their properties should they be required to evacuate their houses in the event of floods.

District crime prevention and community safety department chief Insp Erwin Geoffry Ussan said police had already visited residents of three longhouses after floods hit several low-lying areas over the past few days.

He said during the meet-and-greet session, residents were told not to worry about leaving their homes for fear of their houses being broken into, as police would also be stepping up their patrols.

Erwin added that apart from crime prevention patrols, police would also assist in the evacuation of flood victims.
