KUCHING: The Sarawak Police Contingent fully welcomes the frontliners’ special incentives   announced in the Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance Package on Monday.

Padawan District Police Chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan

State Commissioner of Police (CP) Datuk Aidi Ismail said, “We express our outmost gratitude to the government for its appreciation of the tasks carried out by the police in enforcing this movement control order (MCO).

“I am deeply touched by the state government’s incentives for the police as well as various frontline services,” he added.

Padawan District Police Chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan also thanked   the state government for its concern for the welfare of police personnel at this time.

He explained that manning roadblocks was a routine task for the police.

“However because of the threat of Covid-19, now we have to enforce the MCO and limit the people’s movement,” he said.

At one of the roadblocks at Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg yesterday, Sergeant Abu Bakar Sahari expressed his gratitude to the state government for the incentives which proved the latter’s concern and appreciation of the frontliners.

“With or without the incentives, we will still do the job entrusted to us. We do not expect anything in return as it is already our solemn duty to protect the nation and its sovereignty.

“To us, the incentives are a form of bonus and a gift, so we are very thankful and grateful for them,” he said.

In the Special Assistance Package, the state government honours the personal sacrifice and commitment of those who are directly exposed to Covid-19 risk while performing their duties in managing the outbreak in Sarawak.

Hence, the government will be providing special monthly incentives for  six months by giving RM200 to three main frontliners, namely Royal Malaysian Police Force (PDRM), Malaysian Armed Force (MAF) and People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) personnel.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg stated that RM200 would be given to 3,395 PDRM personnel and State Operations Room officers working around the clock to ensure safety and security of Sarawakians.
