Policeman dies in car chase

The scene of the accident that claimed the life of a Sarawakian police officer and injured another at Jalan Kangkar Tebrau, Johor Bahru.

KUCHING: A Sarawakian policeman with the rank of constable was killed while his colleague was severely injured after the mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) they were riding in was involved in an accident at Jalan Kangkar Tebrau in Johor Bahru on Sunday (Nov 1).

The victim identified as Nicholester Dadup Unggat, 20, from Sibu, was involved in a car chase for two male suspects in a Perodua Myvi.

It was known that the victim, who is the passenger in the MPV, along with Lieutenant Corporal Mohd Fadirul (driver) are both attached to the Bandar Dato’ Onn police station in Johor Bahru.

It was reported that the accident happened at 6.24am when the MPV collided with the side of the suspects’ car and later crashed into a Perodua Aruz.

The MPV overturned and the victim died at the scene while the driver was severely injured.

The driver and passenger of the Perodua Aruz also sustained injuries.

Sources said that the local police officer will be laid to rest in his hometown soon.
