KUCHING: The tasks of academics today have been made even more challenging by the Covid-19 pandemic, says Politeknik Kuching Sarawak director Hikmatullah Hajid Ahmad Khan.

According to him, online teaching and learning (PdPR) required more effort and increased responsibility.

“Among the challenges; maintaining enthusiasm among the students in their studies,” he said during PKS’ Academia Day and excellent service award presentation here on Thursday (Oct 28).

Despite the challenges, he said the contributions of academics should not be restricted to PdPR alone but should also benefit the public through researches.

“In this regard, academics should conduct research based on real-world scenarios that are beneficial to society as a whole.”

During the event, Hikmatullah also highlighted the various activities in conjunction with the celebration, such as talks and knowledge sharing sessions.

The event also saw a poetry performance titled ‘Untukmu Pensyarah’ by Sarawak Youth Icon 2020 Khalid Husseine Tuah.

Hikmatullah handed out certificates to 41 staff for their outstanding service.

Also present were deputy director (academic) Samsudin Mohd Saleh and deputy director (academic support) Ahmady Solong.
