KUCHING: The POLIKU Research & Innovation Exhibition (PRIEX), held biannually, showcases students’ final semester projects and new ideas. 

The recent event, hosted at Politeknik Kuching Sarawak’s (PKS) Perak Jubilee Hall on May 14, was organised by the Petrochemical Engineering Department in collaboration with the Student Project Committee and Research, Innovation, and Commercial Unit.

In a statement issued by the polytechnic recently said that PRIEX aims to promote student innovation, enhance external understanding of student skills, particularly in engineering, information technology, and commerce fields, and foster graduates with holistic characteristics and increased marketability.

“The exhibition featured 56 final year student projects across seven categories, along with five innovation projects from Politeknik Kuching Sarawak’s staff. 

“Categories included Internet of Things (IoT), Engineering Technology (Industrial and Non-Industrial Based), Information Technology, Research, Services and Product Marketing, Environment and Renewable Energy, and an open category.”

Beyond the polytechnic’s students, PRIEx welcomed participants from various schools, such as SM Teknik Sejingkat, SMK Agama Matang 2, SMK Tun Abdul Rahman and SMK Siburan.

Politeknik Kuching Sarawak (PKS) director Samsudin Mohd Saleh said the institution hopes that the students of this school will benefit from the explanations given by dignitaries present in the PRIEx presentation session earlier and at the same time promote PKS as the main choice for students to study in the TVET field. 

“In addition, the Sales Fair held at the PKS compound organised by the PKS Entrepreneurship Unit is expected to improve the entrepreneurial skills of PKS students,” he said at the event’s officiating ceremony.

The statement highlighted that the overall champion for PRIEx Session II 2023/2024 this time was awarded to the Cat Feeder project from the Department of Information and Communication Technology, PKS. 

“It is hoped that this PRIEx can further strengthen the culture of research and innovation among students and staff of PKS,” the statement read.
