Polytechnics, community colleges nationwide take part in English writing competition

KUCHING: Seventy students from polytechnics and community colleges nationwide are participating in the English Writing Competition 2021 (EWC 2021) that runs from Oct 12 to 22.

It is organised by the Student Recruitment and Development Division, Polytechnic Education Department and Community College and Kuching Sarawak Polytechnic, aimed at improving writing skills among students.

It is expected to help students improve their writing skills, including aspects of grammar, and critical ideas.

The online competition features two categories – Short Story Writing and News Article Writing, saw participation from students of Kuching Sarawak Polytechnic; Kota Kinabalu Polytechnic; Mersing Polytechnic; Port Dickson Polytechnic; Ungku Omar Polytechnic; Mas Gading Community College; and Sungai Petani Community College.

“Two speakers with extensive experience in creative writing (short stories, novels, fiction) and news article writing were invited to share the main criteria in short story writing and news articles.

“The speaker for the Short Story workshop is Sharon Joyce Bakar, who is the director of Word Works Sdn Bhd, while the speaker for the News Article workshop is Nazmi Suhaimi, assistant news editor.”
