KUCHING: Poor families in the Satok constituency are assured of better accommodation under the government housing scheme for the poor (Program Penambahbaikan Rumah Rakyat Miskin Sarawak — PPRMS).

Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Satok deputy chairman Datuk Ibrahim Baki said the branch have been requested by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg who is also the Satok assemblyman to look after Satok area which is under Abang Johari’s constituency.

“There are two house repair projects carried out in Kampung Segedup and Kampung Sungai Maong.

“A sum of RM15,000 under the minor rural project (MRP) has been allocated for each house that needs repair works and others,” he told Suara Sarawak when met after visiting the project in Kampung Segedup yesterday.

According to Ibrahim Baki, a villager Sapiee Son in Kampung Segedup had received the assistance to help him repair a damaged rooftop.

“Before this, the roof was leaking and the family faced problems each time it rained and the owner had made an application for the repair works.

“It was approved by the community leader, Penghulu and PBB Segedup branch in about three weeks,” he said.

He revealed that in Kampung Segedup area, there were six houses that have been repaired under the programme.

He explained that for the entire Satok area, more than 50 houses have been repaired under the programme and after September about 30 to 40 more projects would be implemented.

“We hope that by end of this year, we can achieve the target of 80 to 100 MRP projects,” he said.

Ibrahim also visited a similar project at Sungei Maong.

He was accompanied during the visit by a political secretary to chief minister, Abdul Samat Gany.
