According to the Anas Popcorn owner, he and his wife started selling popcorn at the night market around 2015.

“The idea came as my child loves this snack. From there, I began to think – why should I buy when I can learn to make popcorn?

“With an initial capital of RM800 added with strong passion and determination, my wife and I decided to venture into the popcorn business,” he said, adding he is now able to make a profit of up to RM170,000 a month.

Further elaborating, the 39-year-old entrepreneur said due to the overwhelming response from his customers, he now also has eight agents and 800 distributors throughout Sarawak.

“With coaching classes held weekly (currently conducted online), this greatly helps our agents and distributors to be more confident in promoting and marketing our products in line with our mission to make Anas Popcorn a well-known brand throughout Asia.

“I also intend to produce other products such as staple foods in the future,” he explained, adding he is targeting sales revenue of more than RM4 million this year.

Speaking on his popcorn flavours, Kawi said basically, they have nine popcorn flavours but they only market two of them namely the caramel and gula apong flavours, which are sold at RM17 per pack.

Meanwhile, commenting on his business which was also affected since the country was hit by the Covid-19 pandemic, the determined entrepreneur stressed that to overcome the problem, he and his team used social media platforms to promote their popcorn by using the hashtag ‘Popcorn Keluarga Penyayang’ (PKP) (loving family popcorn) to attract customers.

PKP also refers to the movement control order term in Bahasa Melayu (perintah kawalan pergerakan).
