KUCHING: For the first time in Sarawak, popular TV host Datuk Aznil Nawawi became a motivational speaker of a Speaking Nation Programme at SMK Matang Hilir here, yesterday.
The programme was organised by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the State Education Department and Yayasan Pesona.
Some 370 Form 4, Form 5 and special education students from 10 schools attended the programme.
During the sharing session, Aznil said the purpose of the programme was to ensure that the students have a high level of confidence, believe in themselves and to indirectly raise the spirit of young Malaysians.
“The skills I share with the students are 21st century learning skills to ensure the realisation of the students’ objectives in communication, creativity, cooperation and prevent naivety which are very critical in turning something ordinary into something extraordinary.
“For the children, education needs to be prioritised in terms of academic and certificates. However, whether he or she is successful or not, there is no reason for them to fail in other areas as this programme teaches them to have the value and quality as human beings,” he said.
Aznil who is also Yayasan Pesona chairman added that every party needs to play its role in convincing the students that Malaysian children have the potential to lead the country and even the world, not just among the Western children.
“At the same time, to be an extraordinary individual, one must remember the value of politeness and morality and to nurture them in the community so that the 21st century learning continues to be adopted,” he said.
The 10 participating schools were SMK Matang Hilir, SMK Semerah Padi, SMK Matang Jaya, SMK Petra Jaya, SMK Bandar Semariang, SMK Sri Matang, Sekolah Seni Malaysia Sarawak, SM Sains Kuching Utara, SMK Agama Tun Ahmad Zaidi and SMK Sheikh Haji Othman Abdul Wahab.
