Digimon is a popular Japanese media and product franchise founded by Akiyoshi Hongo that includes anime, manga, toys, video games, trading card games, and others.

The Digimon Card Game by Bandai is a trading card game based on the Digimon series. It was initiated in 2020, and it is still going.

Nowadays, people are familiar with Digimon, and many people are interested in the Digimon card game. Local events, such as store competitions and mini tournaments organised by someone involved in an anime event, are also available.

Buddy Connection is the only official card game shop in Kuching, and it is located in Gala City. It not only sells Digimon products, but also Pokémon, One Piece, Yu-Gi-Oh, Dragon Ball, Shadow Verse, Flesh and Blood, and others.

Buddy Connection had previously organised a number of competitions for card games. It will also hold official competitions in the future for

Buddy Connection hosted the “DC-1 Grand Prix” Digimon card game competition on December 31, 2022. The competition attracted around 20 Digimon card game players. This competition follows the Swiss draw format.

To compete in this competition, Digimon card players must purchase a DC-1 Grand Pix Set. The price is fixed at RM250 per person, and each person can only buy once.

“I organised this event so that those card game players could practise their skills and have a place to play these card games,” said Jacob Wee, 49, owner of Buddy Connection.

“Another aim is to provide them with the opportunity to compete in Digimon card game competitions in other countries such as Singapore and Japan,” he added.

During the event, Pengiran Hazieq Izzat, 29, said, “I’m participating in this competition not to win or compete against other competitors, but because today is the last day of 2022, and I’m hoping to have more fun in this Digimon card competition.”

Meanwhile, Jerry Siaw, 22, said, “I enjoy playing Digimon because the card gameplay is unique and appealing to me and the price of Digimon cards is reasonable and affordable. And for today’s competition, I’m hoping to place in the top eight because the competitors here are very strong.”

The Digimon Card Game is currently gaining popularity slowly, and it is hoped that as decks and cards become easier to obtain for new or interested players, it will continue to grow. There’s a lot to like about it — from the artwork on the cards to how easy it is to pick up and play after a quick lesson.
