KUALA LUMPUR: Pos Malaysia Berhad launched its second “Pos Silang” stamp series in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the World Post Day on Wednesday, reminiscent of the days when receiving handwritten postcards in mailboxes was a trend.

In a statement today, Pos Malaysia’s Group chief executive officer Syed Md Najib Syed Md Noor said as the world progressed to be more digitalised with advanced technology, letter writing and postcards had been replaced by other means of digital and electronic communications.

“For this year’s “Pos Silang” initiative, the stamp folder is designed in the shape of the Pos Malaysia’s post box.

“The stamps feature illustrations of post boxes at notable places of interests in Malaysia namely Tanjung Piai in Johor — the southernmost tip of mainland Asia and Mount Kinabalu, Sabah which is located 4,095 metres above sea level and officially recognised as the highest post box in Malaysia by the Malaysia Book of Records,” according to a statement today.

The “Pos Silang” (Postcrossing), refers to an activity which enables anyone to exchange postcards with random people around the world.

Meanwhile, avid postcards collectors and those who were keen to participate in the Postcrossing activity would need to register at the website at www.postcrossing.com/signup in order to receive the country code and sender’s ID.

This stamp issue came in two postage stamps with 50 sen and 80 sen denominations, for philatelic products such as the First Day Cover, Postcards and Folder, which were up for grabs at 50 sen, RM1 and RM6 per piece, while the limited-edition complete folder sets of “Pos Silang” could be purchased at RM35.80.

The stamps and philatelic products are available for purchase at all general post offices and selected post offices nationwide or online at www.eziemall.com.
