KOTA SAMARAHAN: Poverty is not a barrier to success, but motivation for us to work harder.

Kota Samarahan MP Rubiah Wang said this at the opening ceremony of a programme to eradicate poverty at the Asajaya District Office yesterday.

“Poverty can be replaced by self-striving to achieve success in life.

“If we make poverty a factor that undermines our desire to change our lives, then we must abandon it if we really want to succeed,” she addressed.

She also mentioned that the programme was aimed at helping the community in their quest to change their lives for the better.

According to Rubiah, various activities and programmes have been implemented by the state government in helping the people and this shows their commitment to the people.

Meanwhile, Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Datuk Peter Minos expressed his gratitude to the Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Ministry for giving MPKS the confidence to implement the programme to help the less fortunate.

“MPKS has been implementing the programme since 2015 with the hope of providing assistance and easing the burden of the recipients,” he said.

He informed that MPKS also implemented the assistance of homes and hawker kiosks to provide comfort to the community.

Minos hoped that the beneficiaries would use the assistance to increase their household income.

“The government is very
concerned about the less fortunate and will always diversify its programmes in an effort to help them lead a better life,” he said.
