KUALA LUMPUR: Hardships in life due to poverty should never be a hindrance to achieving success and six Baitulmal Icon of the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) are living testimonies.

Fazliana Shirat, Asnah Ramsi, Md Sabidi Abdullah and Rahimi Jonri today can be proud of themselves after being appointed as MAIWP Entrepreneur’s Icon Award recipients in recognition of their striving efforts to improve lives through business after getting help from Baitulmal MAIWP.

In the case of Nuryn Zhafaryna Mohd Fahros and Nurul Athiyah Hanim Berahim, who were named Academic Icon Award recipients, they should be role models especially for teenagers to achieve academic success.

Sharing her experience, Fazliana, 36, who was met by Bernama after the MAIWP Syawal Baitulmal seminar here yesterday, said she started business from zero and her life began to change after receiving financial assistance from Baitulmal MAIWP in 2012.

“After my husband was involved in a road accident several years ago, the family faced financial problems and from there, I started sewing business and became a middleman selling clothing material at home.
