KUCHING: Electricity bill discounts introduced under the Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance (BKSS) Package in April this year will be extended until Dec this year.
With the extension, Sarawak Energy has deployed a dedicated task force working 24/7 to normalise bills, said Utilities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.
Steps will also be taken to ensure that every eligible customer from the domestic, commercial and industrial categories will receive their discounts by December at the latest, he said in a joint statement issued by his ministry and Sarawak Energy today.
He said the state government had introduced the discounts on electricity bills as part of a comprehensive plan to alleviate the people’s economic burden complementing the federal government assistance.
“Bearing in mind that the on-going Covid-19 situation continues to cause hardship amongst our people, the discounts have been extended until December 2020.
“The highest 25 percent combined discount rate will be for domestic households with 23 percent borne by the Sarawak government,” he said.
Dr Rundi said the BKSS package extension, estimated to cost the Sarawak government about RM84 million, was to ensure that the rakyat’s burden would be further reduced during this difficult time.
“Customers eligible for these discounts ranging from five percent to 25 percent under BKSS packages of the Sarawak and federal governments will be reflected in their electricity bills,” said Lau Kim Swee, the chief executive officer of Syarikat Sesco Berhad, the operations arm of Sarawak Energy.
The discounts will be reflected in the bills as below:
- The November discount will be displayed in bills to be issued from November 16 November 30 2020, while the discount for December will be displayed in December bills.
- For bills already issued in Oct and from Nov 1 to 15, the discount will be adjusted in December’s bills.
