ASAJAYA: Electricity infrastructure development projects in Sarawak succeeded in reducing power supply interruptions by up to 68 per cent.

Director of Electricity Supply at the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication Syed Mohamad Fauzi Shahab said the System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) decreased from 242 minutes to about 80 minutes a year.

“Infrastructure development projects throughout Sarawak including in Asajaya have improved the overall performance of the SAIDI by 68 per cent from 242 minutes to 77.93 minutes in 2022.

“This means that the average electricity supply interruption for consumers is below 80 minutes a year,” he said to reporters after Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi held a work visit to the Asajaya 33/11kV substation on Saturday.

He added that they were also expected to implement the Momentary Average Interruption Frequency Index (MAIFI) method this year.

According to him, it is also to improve from the existing system which is SAIDI and the System Average Interruption Frequency Index (SAIFI).

“For this, we will create a momentary disruption so with this level indicator we can get quantitative figures to see how this disruption occurs that makes users uncomfortable.

“Therefore, from this level indicator, we can get to know where are the places for us to take action so that this disturbance can be reduced,” he stressed.

The MAIFI measurement method is related to the operational performance of the grid system in rural areas.
