MIRI: Kampung Senadin Jaya and Tudan Desaras in Senadin constituency which have not yet received electricity will soon be given the supply in stages.

The project, fully funded by the Sarawak government, will be carried out under the Additional or Late Applicant Fund (ALAF).

Currently, 134 residents from both areas have submitted their names for the project.

In giving this assurance during a working visit cum briefing session held at the Sarawak Islamic complex in Miri on Wednesday afternoon, Rural Electricity Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the implementation would be in stages.

During a meeting with nearly 50 representatives (residents) from those two areas late yesterday, the assistant minister also explained that some of the previous projects which had been approved by the previous federal government could not be implemented due to changes in the political landscape after the 14th General Election.

“Several projects were slashed by the current federal government… and Sarawak government have taken over some of these slashed projects with its own funding as we think about the people,” he said.

“Please submit your names as soon as possible to your respective village heads so that we can process your applications immediately,” he advised the residents of the two areas.

Tourism, Arts and Culture Assistant Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin also said, “Please don’t chase away our representatives who are collecting your names for the project.”

The residents have been applying for the electricity supply for the past two years.

Prior to yesterday’s session in Miri, Abdul Rahman was also in Bekenu for a similar event.

A total of 426 applications were received in Subis District.
