KAPIT: The just-ended powerboat competition, which was held in conjunction with the Baleh-Kapit Raft Safari 2018, was a huge crowd puller.

On the final day on Sunday, those present at the waterfront to witness racers from Brunei and from various parts of Sarawak show off their skills were not only locals, but from outstation as well.

Altogether, there were 16 events consisting of pump engine – 18hp, 30hp and 50hp with some 60 boats competing in the events.

For the results, Orion 85 emerged as champion in the 50hp Tunnel Boat category, followed by Ferrari 78 and Green Hornet 36. Fourth and fifth places went to Song Team 19 and ALTA Racing Team 37 respectively.

For the 30hp Tunnel Boat category, the winners were Ganas Pasir Ngabu Baleh 69 (champion), Orion 85 (second) and Athena 31 (third). In fourth and fifth places were Green Hornet 36 and Legion 75 respectively.

GB TAN 18 was named as champion for the 35hp Tunnel Boat (Two Piston) category, while HR Speed 16 and Song Team Bird 09 were in the second and third places respectively. Fourth and fifth places went to BBRT 75 and RCT Invader 30.

For the 18hp Tunnel Boat category, the top three winners were GB Group 31, TBRT ZEUS Group 85 and PESAKLA 11 while Athena 2 21 and Song Team 09 were in fourth and fifth places.

PESAKA 35 won in the 8hp pump engine category, followed by Majeniezs195 (second), Pesaka Baleh 49 (third), KM3 Spartan (fourth) and Shark 91 (fifth).

For the 30hp Tunnel Boat category, which top prize was the Edmund Erong Memorial Cup, coming up top in this category was Murpink, leaving Athena 31 in second place and Orion 85 in third place.

For the Mini Marathon 18hp and Below Tunnel Boat category, GB 31, Song Team 09 and PASAKA 29 came in first to third.

Present at the prize giving ceremony were Kapit Deputy Resident Galong Luang; Bukit Mabong District Officer Douglas Pungga; Kapit Division Powerboat Association (Kadpa) Secretary Jacob Baling; Kapit District Council Secretary Jabang Juntan; State Administrative Officer Bidah Lujah and Connie Edmund Jugah.
