KUCHING: Residents in Murum were advised to practise sustainable water usage as it is one of the state’s natural resources.
Its assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon said this will ensure the environment can be preserved and passed on to the next generation.
“World Water Day 2021 aims to raise public awareness of the importance of water and encourage the participation of various levels of society in maintaining its sustainability.
“This is to ensure water which is a priceless natural treasure is preserved and maintained through a sustainable ecosystem to be passed on to future generations,” he said in a Facebook post on Sunday (March 28).
On Saturday, Chukpai and Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong attended a river cleaning gotong-royong programme at Sungai Jelalong, Rumah Ramli Udau, Tubau.
The assemblyman said the programme is expected to foster the spirit of shared responsibility in ensuring a sustainable environment, cultivating gotong royong activities and green practices among the community.
“This programme also aims to educate the local community to appreciate the river or water resources for its sustainability which is the most important asset in our lives.
“Thank you for the cooperation and support of all parties in making this programme a success by adhering to the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs),” he said.
