Prawn fishing competition to foster friendship

KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Batu Kawa branch recently organised a prawn fishing competition to foster closer rapport with the community.

PBB Batu Kawa chief Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim said the activity was the branch’s annual event to attract community engagement.

“It is my hope that this sort of competition will create stronger bonds between the party and the people.

“Hopefully, this cooperation will continue to be preserved for the society’s benefit,” he said at the opening ceremony of Prawn Fishing Competition 2019 at Kampung Rantau Panjang here recently.

On another note, he urged the people to remain united to ensure harmony and prosperity.

“The spirit of being Sarawakians must be protected forthe future generations. Our racial and religious backgrounds should not be an obstacle for us to be proud of being Sarawakians.

“All the development and prosperity that we enjoy today are the results of mutual respect and understanding between us all these years,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, 43 people participated in the competition, which offered cash prizes to the five top winners – RM700, 500, RM400, RM300, and RM200.

Consolation prizes were given to the sixth to the 30th placed winners

Present at the event was Tan Kai, political secretary to the chief minister.
