MIRI: Forty-three drug abuse suspects, including an 18-year-old pregnant woman and two senior citizens were arrested during operations held for three days here from April 10 to 12.

The operations were conducted at two separate locations, Miri and Subis districts, were overseen by the National Anti-Drugs Agency (Nada) Miri branch in collaboration with local Resident Committees (RCs) and Rela (People’s Volunteer Corps).

In Miri district, the areas raided were Kampung Pulau Melayu, Tudan, Pujut and Permyjaya where 24 people aged between 17 and 63 were detained.

“Out of the 24 detained, 20 were tested positive for drugs (syabu and ganja) including a pregnant woman,” said Nada Miri chief Mazlan Jikran.

Meanwhile in Subis district, the operations teams raided five areas namely Kampung Subak, Bekenu’s junction, Bukit Peninjau, Kampung Kawang and Kampung Dagang, where 19 people were picked-up.

During a raid held at Kampung Subak, the upper-half of a mannequin which was believed to have been used by one of the drug suspects to perform sexual acts was also found.

“All the 19 suspects were tested positive for drugs and will be investigated under Section 3(1) of the Drug Dependant (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act, 1983,” Mazlan said.
