LEEDS: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg along with a delegation from the Sarawak government have safely arrived here on Friday night.

Abang Johari, accompanied by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, are currently on an official working visit to the United Kingdom (UK).

The Sarawak government delegation safely arrived at a hotel in Leeds at 10.30 pm local time.

Abang Johari is scheduled to lead the delegation on Monday to visit the Drax Power Station, a biomass energy plant with a generating capacity of 3,960 megawatts.

The visit aims to observe the utilisation of technology in renewable energy production using wood pellets.

On Tuesday, the Premier and the delegation will continue their working visit to London to witness the signing and exchange of Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) between Sarawak’s SMD Semiconductor and Compound Semiconductor Applications Catapult at the House of Commons, the UK Parliament.

The MOU seeks to forge collaboration with its UK partner to drive innovations that would reshape the capabilities and applications of compound semiconductors that are made from two or more elements as compound to silicon that is made from a single element.

The next day on Wednesday, Abang Johari will depart to Poland to attend the Hydrogen Technology Forum.

He will participate in the Debate Regions for the Planet session and to share Sarawak’s perspective on transitioning to renewable energy and environmental sustainability.
