ENGKILILI: Voters here have been urged to give their full support to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate Roy Gingkoi, for the Lubok Antu parliamentary seat in the 15TH general election (GE15).

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said this is to ensure that Engkilili will get the same development with other areas such as Batang Ai, for the benefit of the locals.

“If Batang Ai is developed, people in Engkilili will not be jealous, if your representative is from GPS.

“Now, when we want to do development in Engkilili, your representative said no as we are not in the same house.

“If we are in the same house, it is easy for us to negotiate like how we negotiate with Snowdan (Datuk Snowdan Lawan – Balai Ringin assemblyman), Malcolm (Datuk Malcolm Mussen – Batang Ai) and Douglas (Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah – Bukit Saban) on development in their area. But here (Engkilili), we cannot negotiate and don’t blame me for it,” he said.

He was speaking during the Sri Aman Sarawakku Sayang programme at Engkilili, Sri Aman on Today.

He therefore urged voters there to be wise and think of what had been done by the opposition during 22 months of Pakatan Harapan (PH) government when many development projects were cancelled.

“Malcolm has asked for funds to reconstruct this hall, and it’s not a problem because I believe, Engkilili people are matured enough and you know what to do.

“If you give more, then you will get more than this hall in Engkilili. It will be easy to negotiate, and this is what we want to do,” he said.

Meanwhile, Abang Johari, who is chairman of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) insisted that the coalition would not compromise with any political party, especially from the peninsula, that has betrayed its promises.

He said, previously GPS made an agreement with Perikatan Nasional (PN) not to interfere in Sarawak during the election, but the party did not keep its promise.

“When PN experienced a severe political crisis, they asked GPS for help and we supported them and witnessed Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin become Prime Minister.

“At that time there was an agreement not to disturb Sarawak. But during the last State Election (PRN), they still came to contest here as independents to fight GPS.

“And now it’s the general election time, they come again. It is indeed a democratic process but a promise is still a promise.

“How can you trust a party that does not stick to promises like this, especially a party that comes from the peninsula.

“I don’t compromise, you come and we fight. It’s for the sake of the children and the future of the state of Sarawak because we have a strong spirit,” he stressed.
