KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to deliver another talk on hydrogen economy in Japan next month.

He said that he was privileged to be given the opportunity to present his paper at the World Hydrogen Summit in Rotterdam, and was the only Asian presenting the paper previously.

“God willing, I’ve been invited to give a talk again next month in Japan on hydrogen economy,” he said.

He said this during the Institute of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Sarawak Branch annual dinner at a leading hotel last night.

Abang Johari said hydrogen production is a new resource of which the state is embarking on.

“We are also embarking on carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS). This is something new.

“I have amended our Sarawak Land Code where one of the four areas in the world, Sarawak is one of the four that can store carbon. We are very blessed with that,” he said.

Arising from that, Abang Johari said there is a new activity in the economy and that is carbon trading.

“We are going to stock carbon through our forestry sector as well as our storage areas within our waters,” he said.

Meanwhile, also present were Abang Johari’s wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, and IEM Sarawak Branch chairman Datuk Ir Janang Bungsu.
