SINGAPORE: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg wants a stable federal government but remained tight-lipped on which side GPS would back at the next general election, according to reports by Singaporean daily, The Straits Times.

The Premier said that while the recent wins by Barisan Nasional (BN) in the Melaka and Johor state elections were positive, the outcome in a general election remained uncertain because voter sentiment differed at state and national levels.

“As far as GPS is concerned, we want a stable federal government, so the whole country can move forward,” he said to The Straits Time in a recent interview.

Abang Johari who is also the president of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), however is holding his cards close to his chest.

“Leaders of Pakatan Harapan (PH) have been my friends too. Let’s see how it goes,” he said.

He also said that GPS by breaking away was no longer bound by BN’s consensus decision-making.

“This has gained more leverage to pursue Sarawak’s priorities with the federal government,” he said.
