KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg witnessed the handing over of zakat (tithes) amounting to RM400,000 and RM500,000 of waqf donations contributed by the general public through RHB Islamic to Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) today.

The zakat payment for the financial year ending 2021 was submitted by the managing director and chief executive officer of RHB Datuk Adissadikin Ali to the chairman of the Sarawak Islamic Council Datuk Misnu Taha, as a representative of TBS.

Adissadikin noted that RHB Islamic implements zakat payment which is part of its responsibility as an organisation concerned with the goal of empowering the socio-economic development of the ummah for the benefit of the poor.

Meanwhile, a total of RM500,000 collected or waqf donations for the al-bait waqf fund project contributed by the general public especially from RHB customers will be used for the improvement of two tahfis institutes in the state to improve the comfort of about 150 asnafs (needy students).

Also present were TBS general manager Datuk Abg Mohd Shibli Abg Mohd Nailie, RHB chief Shariah advisor Ahmad Mukarrami Ab Mummin and RHB Sarawak regional director Mohammad Tony Ong Abdullah.
