MIRI: Police here on Saturday raided two premises that were used for running illegal four-digit (4D) lottery operations in Simpang Ngu and Bukit Kisi in Bekenu.

According to sources, the two premises were operating under a guise (as grocery shops) to avoid being detected by the authorities.

During the raid dubbed Ops Dadu, two local women aged 21 and 22 were picked up by a team of police.

The first premises was raided by the team around 5pm, before proceeding to Bukit Kisi at 6.15pm.

Both women were suspected of providing top-up services and registration for online gambling.

During the raid, police seized cash amounting to RM1,280 from the two premises.

The police also confiscated devices used in the illegal online activities which included a handphone, a computer monitor, a central processing unit (CPU), a computer keyboard, a computer mouse, and a calculator.

The case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953 which provides for a fine of not less than RM5,000 and not more than RM50,000, or imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years.
