MIRI: Miri Division Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) is urging all premises here to register for the MySejahtera or Qmunity app, and display the QR code.

“For those who do not have a gadget to scan, they are allowed to write their info manually in a record book provided by the premises,” said minister in charge of Miri DDMC, Datuk Lee Kim Shin, on Friday (Aug 7) after chairing a meeting with Miri Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Miri Dayak Chamber of Commerce, Dewan Usahawan Bumiputera and Miri Hawker Association.

The meeting was to get feedback on the implementation of Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP) during the recovery movement control order (RMCO) and enforcement.

“The implementation of ‘sign-in’, either handwritten on a book prepared by the premises or by scanning the QR code of MySejahtera or Qmunity, is aimed to keep movement records during the RMCO so that close contact can be traced easily in case there is a positive case,” explained Lee, who is also Transport Minister.

Regarding compounds issued by the police, Lee said that under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988, the maximum imposed compound was RM1,000.

“Following the SOP for reduction of compound dated June 2 issued by the Health Ministry, the following categories can appeal – Category B40, Senior Citizens, disabled (OKU) with identification documentation (ID) from Welfare Department, and first offenders.”

Miri Division Health Office (DHO), from June 10 until Aug 6, had received a total of 79 walk-in individuals and company representatives pertaining to the said compounds.

“Seventy-two individuals (91 per cent) were given 50 per cent reduction and were fined only RM500 under the First Offenders category, the other seven individuals or company (nine per cent) paid RM1,000 without appealing. All the appeal applications will be given counselling and processed in due accordance by Miri DHO without any rejection,” Lee disclosed.

He pointed out that the entire exercise was to ensure everyone complied to the new norm and SOP set by the authorities. “The public health laws are devised to protect the health of the general population and to ensure appropriate action is taken against offenders.”
