NATIONAL DAY CELEBRATION

KUCHING: Preparations are well underway for the state-level National Day celebration in Sri Aman, said Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

He said the final preparations for the celebration were going as planned and an invitation to the guest of honour, Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, had been delivered.

“The celebration will be held at a field near Dewan Suarah Sri Aman and also at a hotel where we will be holding a dinner on the eve of National Day,” he said when met by reporters after officiating at the state-level National Youth Day 2020 celebration at Pullman Hotel here on Saturday.

Abdul Karim, who is also Youth and Sports Minister, said that he would inspect the final stages of preparation before the celebration.

“Last night (Friday night), a rehearsal was held and there were no problems. We hope there will be no rain on the day,” he said.

“I believe that Simanggang residents are happy with the celebration being held there this time, because with the movement control order (MCO) we know that many people could not visit other places,” he added.

He said despite celebrating in the new norm, the event would still be vibrant and merry with the presence of state leaders and other dignitaries.

Abdul Karim also hoped that all residents of Sri Aman would attend to enliven the National Day celebration.
