Press Metal Bintulu Sdn Bhd (PMBSB) contributed PCR test kit equipment worth RM435,950 to Bintulu Hospital on Jan 22 to improve the hospital’s Covid-19 screening test capacity.

KUCHING: Press Metal Bintulu Sdn Bhd (PMBSB) has contributed PCR test kit equipment worth RM435,950 to Bintulu Hospital on Jan 22 to further improve the hospital’s Covid-19 screening test capacity.

The contribution of one unit of Seegene Nimbus, one unit of CFX96 Real Time PCR Detection System, and one set of STARMag Universal Cartridge Kit by PMBSB will be able to improve the hospital’s capacity of Covid-19 preliminary testing by an additional 288 tests per day.

The contribution of this PCR test kit equipment to the hospital is expected to increase the laboratory’s test capacity above its current 300 tests per day to 588 tests per day.

The contribution was a joint effort by PMBSB and Bintulu Hospital after reaching the understanding on Jan 11 that the contribution of the equipment will significantly help the hospital to expedite their test screening, particularly in view of the surge in Covid-19 cases.

It is hoped that this test equipment will help the hospital to overcome any shortfalls in conducting Covid-19 screening tests and reduce its dependency on other hospitals when the need arises.

Press Metal hoped that this initiative would encourage other establishments, particularly other industry players, to emulate this effort as a form of support for frontliners in keeping Malaysia safe from the threat of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Representing the Board of Directors of Press Metal Sdn Bhd, Group chief executive officer Tan Sri Datuk Paul Koon Poh Keong expressed his highest appreciation to the frontliners for their sacrifices and commitment in keeping the general public safe.

He hoped that this contribution and initiative would help to ease the burden faced by frontliners in their efforts to control the situation and curb the pandemic from spreading further in the community.

Press Metal will continue to provide and support any corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes or corporate contributions that will benefit everyone, particularly during this Covid-19 crisis.

Since the first movement control order (MCO) in March last year, Press Metal has been taking stringent precautionary measures by implementing in-house standard operating procedures (SOPs) to safeguard employees’ wellbeing and to curb the spread of Covid-19.
