PUTRAJAYA: The portable application, Price Catcher, tables information on the prices of over 400 essential consumer goods and updated with the latest characteristics to help consumers plan spending.
Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the price information in the application was compiled by over 1,000 Price Monitoring Officers of the ministry on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
Among the characteristics of the application were search according to category, location or word; location detecting function; comparing prices based or the item or basket of goods and the direction to the premises of choice using the Waze application or Google Map.
The latest characteristics developed were such as price search information sharing facility via social media and announcements on the change in the oil prices or other consumerism information, he told media conference after launching the application at his ministry here yesterday.
‘’It is hoped that Price Catcher can help consumers plan their spendings wisely by picking premises offering reasonable prices other than encouraging traders to be ethical and fixing reasonable prices,’’ he said.
Saifuddin said the application could help consumers to save time and costs by comparing the prices of items offered by outlets in the same locations.
“Subsequently, consumers can plan their spendings by picking premises offering reasonable prices,’’ he said.
Saifuddin said that consumers including Friends of KPDNHEP (FOK) should also share prices which could also benefit other consumers such as promotion prices while traders were encouraged to use the Price Catcher platform to announce promotions.
