JULAU: Farmers, especially in Meluan constituency, are urged to benefit from the Agriculture Community Outreach Programme (AgriCOP) to develop the local agricultural sector.
Meluan assemblyman Rolland Duat Jubin said the state government has allocated RM210,000 for Meluan to implement the programme which aims to promote, expose modern technology and the potential of agriculture to the community.
“Through this programme, direct exposure will be provided to the target group on the latest agricultural developments.
“Besides that, this effort is a measure from the government to reduce the dependency of imported food supply and to boost the economic potential especially in agriculture.
“At the same time, the government aims to encourage the population in agriculture diversification. This way, we can increase the income and improve the living standards of the locals,” he said when officiating the closing ceremony of AgriCOP at a longhouse in Julau on Friday.
Apart from that, Rolland informed that the government has allocated RM1 million for the purchase of durian seedlings which will be distributed to farmers in Meluan area.
In this regard, he thanked Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg who aims to see the socio-economic development and progress of the community in rural areas, especially in Meluan constituency prosper positively.
“We are quite grateful for the noble efforts of Abang Johari who has intensified large and high impact projects that have been very beneficial and helped a lot in efforts to improve the living standards and socio-economy of the people.
“For the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government, the people are always given priority and we are able to fulfill our promises and benefit all walks of life,” Rolland added.
