Many working people are now turning to private nursing service providers for help look after their elderly family members.

This development signals an increase in demand from the public for quality nursing care and allows more nursing service providers to operate in the city.

New Sarawak Tribune interviewed some of the nursing service providers in Kuching to better understand their operations.

One of them is Kenneth Care Home. Founded in 2013 by Dr Kenneth Tan, the centre caters for elderly who need some assistance with their activities of daily living (ADLs) like toileting, but doesn’t need medical care.

“We aim to provide high-quality aged care service that is   accessible, affordable and acceptable to all.

“To date, we provide three types of services for the elderly, namely 24-hour residential care service, day care service and home care nursing service (private nurse to provide care at home or hospital),” said Dr Tan.

The centre operates from 7am to 7pm daily with multiple branches across the city.

“Prior to admission, we need to know about the residents’ chronic illnesses and their family contact details,” he said.

“We started with just a small group of passionate and caring team that wanted to help the elderly and now we have grown to a larger family across the region.

The agency caters to a spectrum of elderly such as stroke, cancer, post-surgery, post-chemotherapy, bed-bound and palliative patients.

“To be more specific, we provide one-to-one nursing care service at a patient’s house (private nursing) and assist in the daily routine of our patients and in areas that require specific medical attention such as nasogastric (NG) tube feeding, wound dressing and physiotherapy.

“This is in line with our vision – to be known as the best in house medical care provider and our mission – to assist every client with improving their quality of life, encouraging independence, and allowing them to be comfortable with excellent care in their own homes by providing professional care with compassion.
