KUCHING: The relevant authorities will investigate the cause or causes of a landslide at Jalan Kuching-Bau near the traffic light junction to Kampung Haji Baki.

At midnight on Friday, an elderly man who was driving a van reportedly fell into the collapsed road, thereby getting him killed on the spot.

“I feel sad to know that on midnight, the incident had caused one fatality. So a thorough investigation is needed and relevant agencies will figure out what actions need to be taken,” said Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang.

He told this to reporters while observing the mobile vaccination centre (PPV) at Kampung Semeba multipurpose hall, today.

Lo, who is also Padawan Municpal Council (MPP) chairman, said the Public Works Department (JKR) need to conduct further investigations pertaining to the landslide incident.

He also said that Kuching Water Board (KWB) will investigate the damage of water pipes, which supplies water to the entire Kuching area.

“I assure that this problem will be solved. It may be that the pipe is old, maybe around 20 or 30 years ago. However, at this time, I cannot assume what had caused such incident to occur.

“Therefore, we will have to wait for the report of the investigations from both departments as they need time to do their probe on the incident,” he concluded.
