KUCHING: A Democratic Action Party (DAP) representative has called on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to continue its probe into the musical fountain project built in front of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly complex.

Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong said the MACC has been toothless in the musical fountain case despite their efficiency in hauling up DAP secretary general Lim Guan Eng and wife.

“If MACC can be so efficient in investigating and charging Lim Guan Eng and his wife in court, which many see as a political persecution, why can’t they extend the same efficiency in going after those involved in this musical fountain project that was handled in a suspicious manner?

“This has made many to wonder if MACC has now become a tool used to persecute a selected few from the opposition,” she said in a statement on Friday.

Yong said, in Dec last year, she personally visited the headquarters of MACC office to hand over evidence for the officers to conduct a thorough investigation into the musical fountain project.

“However, with great disappointment, for the past nine months, there is no progress report at all from MACC to keep the public informed about the matter,” she said.

She stressed that the MACC should waste no time in discharging their duties by quickly completing their investigations on the musical fountain project.

“This is also by making sure those who have abused their power are nailed and received the necessary punishment under the law,” she said.
