KUCHING: There is no other agenda behind the proclamation of Emergency for Sarawak other than avoiding a worse situation if the 12th State Election is   held currently when the Covid-19 cases are still high.

Perikatan Nasional (PN) Sarawak chairman Jaziri Alkaf A. Suffian, who pointed this out, stressed that the Emergency proclamation was to protect public health.

“When the situation has improved and recovered, of course the government will allow the people in the state to exercise their rights to vote. Hopefully, the people can return the mandate to the existing state government to govern Sarawak,” he said yesterday (Saturday).

Jaziri was commenting on the proclamation of Emergency for Sarawak from Aug 2 to Feb 2, 2022 by the Yang-Di-Pertuan Agong.

“I represent PN Sarawak together with our counterparts in Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to hope for the success in controlling the spread of the pandemic through the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK), and that life will return to normal and many restrictions will be relaxed gradually.

“As everyone knows, the PN government under the leadership of Prime MinisterTan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has been successful in implementing the PICK quickly and comprehensively.  Almost 100 percent of the adult populations in Malaysia are expected to complete their vaccine doses by this October.

“With such development, it is hoped that the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong may agree to end the Emergency proclamation earlier than the date mentioned, thus enabling the state election to be held immediately.”

“It is hoped that with implementation of the Emergency proclamation, together we continue to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) besides joining forces and praying to defeat this Covid-19 so that the situation will return to normal soon,” added Jaziri.
