SERIAN: The ‘Engagement with the Community’ programme is crucial in empowering the role of leaders and assisting in the state’s development efforts.

Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the programme serves as an important platform to disseminate various information to the community on the government’s efforts to assist the people.

“This programme involves significant information sharing, especially related to policies, initiatives, and assistance announced by the government,” he said.

Sagah, who is the Tarat assemblyman, was speaking at the event organised by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) in Kampung Rituh Labuan, recently.

At the same event, he also launched the Kampung Rituh Labuan multipurpose hall and presented a special grant amounting to a total of RM590,000 to the village chief and community chief (KMKK) of Tarat constituency.

Earlier, UKAS director Samuel Simon in his speech, advised media practitioners to exercise caution and refrain from spreading false information without verification.

About 300 villagers attended the programme which featured exhibitions by seven agencies, namely the Serian Division Health Office, Siburan District Office, Sarawak Public Service Digitalisation Unit, Serian Social Welfare Office, Serian District Anti-Drug Agency, Siburan Fire and Rescue Department and Tarat Veterinary Services Department (DVSS).

Also present were Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin, Serian Resident Selamat Jati Yanjah, Serian District Officer Lim Hock Meng, political secretary to the Premier Damen Rejek, representative of the Siburan District Officer George Harison Rojes and Kampung Rituh Labuan village chief Suwen Gadum.
