Programme provides free prosthetic limbs to 49 persons with disabilities this Sunday

KUCHING: The Che Hui Khor Moral Uplifting Society of Kuching and Samarahan Division Sarawak has restarted its Free Prosthetic Implant Charity Programme, benefitting 49 persons with disabilities from various ethnic backgrounds.

The official handover ceremony for the brand new prosthetic limbs will take place at 9am this Sunday (July 23).

Deputy Premier and Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian will be the guest of honour at the handover ceremony.

Representatives from the Moral Uplifting Society in the southern region of Sarawak and a medical team from Jakarta, Indonesia, led by Yayasan Moral Sejati Surya Gemilang Ming Ya Shan Ge, Jakarta, will also be present to observe the casting and installation of the prosthetic limbs.

Che Hui Khor president Chai Ming Kuet explained that the medical team arrived from Jakarta to provide tailor-made prosthetic limbs.

“The beneficiaries will have the opportunity to try on and practice using their prosthetic limbs individually, allowing the medical team to make necessary adjustments to ensure a better fit.”

The programme is open to all persons with disabilities, regardless of race, religion, age or gender. Those with disabilities, including issues with feet or hands, are encouraged to apply for the programme.

The second batch of applicants can register for the programme at the Chai Tze Khin Auditorium of SJK Chung Hua No. 2 starting from 1pm this Sunday. Measurements for their foot or hand models will be taken at 1.30pm.

People with disabilities who have not registered with Che Hui Khor or other Moral Uplifting Societies before are also welcome to register on-site, have their foot or hand models made, and receive their prosthetic limbs after six weeks.

The ceremony will be attended by distinguished guests, including Kuching South City Council mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng, Federation of Moral Uplifting Associations Malaysia acting president cum Federation of Moral Uplifting Associations of Sarawak president Temenggong Kueh Aik Seng as well as leaders of the Chinese communities in Kuching and Samarahan divisions.
