However, the physical progress of the project as at July 25 was 4.98 percent (actual) against 2.85 percent (scheduled).

This was revealed by the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) when giving a briefing to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg during the latter’s visit to the project site at Jalan Datuk Ajibah Abol here on Saturday.

Speaking to reporters after the briefing, Abang Johari said the project costs about RM50 million.

“The old bridge will be demolished to give way for the construction of the new bridge as we have already buillt a temporary bridge next to the project site,” he said.

The objective of this project was to construct a four-lane dual carriageway cable stay bridge (57m) over Sungai Bintangor and to improve and widen the existing two-lane single carriageway (601.8m) Jalan Datuk Ajibah Abol from Masjid Bahagian to the Jalan Haji Mataim junction.

The completion of this project would help improve traffic flow and serve as an alternative route.

This road will not only provide a better driving experience — it would also bring about immediate and long-term social economic benefits to the local community within the area.
