Project consultants told to be honest

MIRI: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has reminded project consultants to always maintain a high degree of integrity.

“We want the rakyat to benefit from the completed development projects. Avoid corruption and dishonesty in carrying out your duties,” he stressed at the closing ceremony of the Majlis Amanat Perdana Integriti 2020 here yesterday, attended by over 2,000 people.

“When you do open tender for development projects, you must be honest, evaluate the project in accordance with the right procedures, because at the end of the day, when the projects are not done well, the rakyat will blame the government,” he told the participants.

Abang Johari was responding to feedback pertaining to the construction of bridges, basic amenities such as clean water supply and electricity that was not up to the rakyat’s satisfaction.

“As an appointed project consultant, you must do your part because you are accountable to certify projects, make sure that the job delivered.

“The sstate government, for example, has allocated a huge allocation for the development projects. I’ve noticed that some projects were not delivered properly,” he said.

Also present yesterday were State Secretary Datuk Amar Jaul Samion, Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Talib Zulpilip, State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar and other Sarawak Cabinet ministers.
