SIMUNJAN: The 525m Simunjan riverbank erosion prevention project listed in the Samarahan Integrated Regional Development Agency (IRSDA) will address the issue soon.

Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Dr Hazland Abang Hipni said the project, worth more than RM74mil, was among five applied by Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris in the IRSDA.

According to Dr Hazland, the other four are the proposed 500m riverbank erosion prevention work in Sungai Kampung Sageng (Phase 2), estimated to cost RM20mil.

“Next, the proposed 700m riverbank erosion prevention work in Sungai Kampung Sageng (Phase 3), estimated to cost RM200mil.

“Furthermore, the proposed 500m riverbank erosion prevention work in Sungai Kampung Tabuan (RM20mil) and the ‘upstream flood bypass around Simunjan Town’ (Lubok Samsu) project which is 1,300m long (RM252mil) and another project in Kampung Pantong will also be listed under IRSDA,” he said during his visit on Wednesday (July 20).

The visit was also in conjunction with the Environmental Tour Programme in the Simunjan constituency, a weekly programme in which Dr Hazland would travel to all corners of Sarawak to resolve issues related to the environment.
