BINTULU: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is committed to fulfilling its promises, delivering and bringing development projects to the rakyat, said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is also GPS chairman.

“A promise made is a promise kept.

“Politicians from GPS are unlike those politicians, who, during the last 14th general election campaign, made dozens of promises but at the end of the day, failed to deliver what they had promised to the rakyat.

“Politicians from GPS are not ‘pembulak’ (liars), unlike those from other political parties who made election promises to voters just to win their favour.”

Speaking at the launch of ‘Projek Rakyat’ to build a road connecting Tatau to Kuala Tatau and upgrading works of Jalan Kelebu to Rumah Ado in Tatau yesterday, Abang Johari said the road project was another promise fullfilled by the Sarawak GPS government.

The RM200 million 30km road connecting Tatau to Kuala Tatau will be implemented in two stages.

Work on the first phase of the project (covering 7km) commenced on February 27 this year and is expected to be completed in February 2021.

Work on the remaining stretch will be carried out under the 12th Malaysia Plan (2021-2025).

Once completed, the road will benefit 1,600 villagers in the surrounding areas.

The upgrading work on Jalan Kelebu to Rumah Ado covers over 33.6km and involves a cost of RM17 million.

The upgrading, to be carried out in two stages, will take about 20 months to complete. The project will benefit 2,700 people in the surrounding areas.

“These two projects demonstrate our commitment to fulfill our promises to the people and deliver what we had promised,” said Abang Johari.

At the launch, the chief minister also announced that a waterfront would be built in Tatau.

He approved the construction of Tamin’s water treatment plant which would cost RM62.2 million as well.

“Tatau has a huge potential and it will change,” he said.
