KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg yesterday received a courtesy call from prominent architect Datuk Seri John Lau Kah Sieng at his office at the State Legislative Assembly in Petra Jaya.

During the half-hour meeting, Lau, who is Arkitek KDI Sdn Bhd director, complimented Abang Johari for developing the state’s Information Technology (IT) and the ability to drive the state into becoming a 5G territory.

They also discussed matters pertaining to the tourism industry, transport and planning issues.

Abang Johari also shared his vision for Kuching to become a smart city.

Accompanying Lau on the visit were Sam and Ben Lau of Travilion Group.

Earlier the chief minister handed over a government grant for RM1 million to Tadika Methodist Chinese which was represented by Dudong assemblyman Datuk Tiong Thai King.

Tiong, who is also Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman, was accompanied by the kindergarten chairman John Ting Sik Kang.

Later that afternoon, Abang Johari received a courtesy call by Urusetia Saudara Kita (USK) Sungai Asap / Koyan, Belaga led by Murum assemblyman Chukpai Ugon.
During the half-hour meeting, the chief minister and the USK delegation discussed ways to upgrade the infrastructure in the area.
