MIRI: More concentrated  efforts must be undertaken by all, especially the state government, to promote Sarawak Day in order to create awareness and instil patriotism especially among the younger generations of Sarawak.

“They must know the significance of July 22, 1963. It cannot be denied this date had brought so much change and development to our state,” said Telang Usan
assemblyman Dennis Ngau.

“Sarawakians should realise and understand how it was like before we gained our independence and self-governance,” he added.

Dennis added generations born after Sarawak gained its independence could not understand the hardships of living under  colonial rule.

That was why they could not understand the importance of why Sarawak must be led by Sarawak-based parties and leaders.

Dennis disclosed this at the Sarawak Day celebration organised by SK Ubong Imang Long Lama yesterday.

Today’s generation must understand and appreciate this as all the good things taking place in the state, especially in rural areas like Telang Usan didn’t just happen out of the blue, Dennis said.

“Since we are a self-governing state, we decide what’s best for our people and therefore can see and experience tremendous developments taking place,” he added.
