KUCHING: The Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) has proposed that Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) integrate the Sarawak ID into the corporation’s Enterprise Resource Planning (EPR) system.

SMA general manager Dr Zaidi Razak said that the Sarawak ID is used as the single-sign-on (SSO) identity on all the Sarawak government online services and S Pay Global to enable the public to log in without creating multiple usernames and passwords.

“As such, SEDC could collaborate with the Sarawak Service Modernisation Unit (SSMU) to integrate Sarawak ID into their ERP system,” he said.

He said this when receiving a work visit from a SEDC delegation led by the corporation’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Division director and chief information officer (CIO) Tan Ngoh Lim at SMA’s Office, Yayasan Sarawak building here, recently.

The purpose of the working visit from SEDC was to share SEDC’s digital transformation agenda particularly on their ERP, modern workspace and cloud computing.

ERP is the software used by the organisation to efficiently manage their finance, human resource, procurement and service under an integrated system ensuring higher productivity and gaining important insights for decision making.

Zaidi also stressed that talent development is one of the key enablers in digital transformation and it is essential for SEDC to develop its own talent for successful implementation of ERP and cloud computing in the organisation.

“The Sarawak government has also introduced a data sharing policy in Sarawak which will enable the collaboration between government agencies.

“For the new or existing government system that was not integrated (Siloed System), SSMU has regulated that all Sarawak government agencies would have to provide an application programming interface (API) for their systems on the information that could be shared,” he said.

However, Dr Zaidi said the current system could not be revamp as it is estimated there are 120 systems in Sarawak, therefore the API is a crucial element in assisting various systems to communicate and relay information to each other.

“Therefore, to ensure the successful digital transformation agenda, API would be needed to capture data from the existing systems into ERP to gain insights for decision making.

“API also enables all the government online services to be integrated under one platform known as Integrated Service Management System (ISMS) enabling the public to access all the government online services easily through ISMS.

“It is not an easy task for an organisation to undergo digital transformation, however, digital transformation would be the key in ensuring that the organisation would have substantial growth, at the same time increasing their revenue and productivity and develop systematic way of working,” he stressed.
