KUCHING: Several matters related to Malay customs and Islamic affairs in Sarawak have been successfully gathered since the Lembaga Hal Ehwal Islam dan Adat Melayu (LHEIAM) was activated in November last year.

Its chairman, Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi said they will refine these matters through a series of engagements or workshops involving stakeholders, including the local community, to gather more information before presenting some proposals to the Sarawak government.

“This is not just for the benefit of the Malay community, but for Islamic affairs and everyone as well. God willing, we will do this as soon as possible,” he said.

He said this to reporters after paying a courtesy call on the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar at Astana Negeri Sarawak here today.

Mohamad Kadim further said they were also honoured when Wan Junaidi was willing to provide insights and ideas as a reference to continue moving forward.

“We are very grateful and thankful to Tun for providing his views and ideas, as we know he has a background as a lawyer and his experience as a Member of Parliament, including as the President of the Senate.

“Therefore, this experience and the ideas given are very beneficial, and we will take them as our next course of action,” he said.
