Proposed car park project will change Kapit landscape

KAPIT: Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat attended a site progress meeting for the proposed Kapit District Council multi-storey car park project, held at the conference room of the council building yesterday.

“The proposed construction of the multi-storey car park is very important as it was discussed in the council meeting since 2010 when I was the deputy walikota of the council.

“I must thank the council for inviting me to attend this important meeting to know the progress of the project and I felt obliged to attend as I feel that I am still part of the council.

“I am happy to note that the project already took off and this has been what the people of Kapit wanted to address, which is the parking issues in the area.

“Most importantly, upon completion the project will provide a new landscape for Kapit,” he said.

He was happy to note that the proposed project ran smoothly even though there was a slight delay due to the “on-hold” piling works as Sesco re-aligned their underground cable at its sub-station located within the perimeter and vicinity of the construction site.

“It so happens that I will be attending the Divisional Development Committee (DDC) meeting and I will help to bring the issues to the attention of Sesco so that they could help to speed up their remedial work to ensure the smooth implementation of the project,” assured Jamit.

Later after the meeting, Jamit paid a site visit to have a firsthand look at the work progress for the construction of the proposed multi-storey car park project.

The handing over of the site for the proposed construction of Kapit District Council multi-storey car park located along Jalan Yong Moo Chai was held in March this year and was officiated by the Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing, who is also the Infrastructure Development and Transportation Minister.

The construction period for the RM10 million project is 15 months from March 1, 2018 and is expected to be completed by May 31, 2019.
