MIRI : Social activist Syed Azmi Alhabshi will give a talk entitled ‘Protect Our Children From Sexual Abuse’ on 11 March.

Parents, custodians and teachers are invited to attend the talk which will be held in the library’s Auditorium from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.

The objective of the talk jointly organised by Pustaka Miri and Mega Hotel is to create awareness on sexual abuse and paedophilia that has been spreading throughout the nation.

Paedophilia is a psychiatric disorder in which an adult or older adolescent experiences a primary or exclusive sexual attraction to prepubescent children.

According to Syed Azmi, everyone has to play their roles in keeping the children safe as well as protect them from the sexual predators and it is very important to encourage parents to give their children early  exposure on this issue.

The talk is also hoped to be able to guide parents and custodians to recognise the signs of abuse, the correct approach or proper procedures of handling the issue and the psychological effects.
