KUCHING:  Sarawak police have received 400kg of personal protective items donated by the public, Coway Company and the Health Ministry (MOH).

Sarawak Air Force Team (PGU) commander assistant commissioner Alias Abd Wahab said it was the first time that a flight of logistics was transported by the Beechcraft King Air 350 aircraft from Kuala Lumpur to Kuching.

According to him, the Covid-19 special aviation operation on Friday involved six members — himself, Subang PGU base captain Superintendent Jimmy Roy Bada and four crew members.

“This afternoon, we successfully flew in 400kg of special PPE for the Sarawak Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) because they are frontliners in dealing with Covid-19.

“It is hoped that the donated supplies will enable them to carry out their tasks in a dedicated and safer manner,” he told a press conference at Sarawak PGU on Friday.

Alias revealed that the PPE items comprised face masks, gloves and hand sanitisers.

He added that all of these items would be distributed to the involved District Police Headquarters.

“They will probably be sent by boat to Kapit, Belaga and Song. We will be delivering the goods to Sibu by air,” he said.

Alias said that the Sarawak PGU had helicopter constraints as most of the aircrafts were currently under maintenance. He hoped they could be used in the near future.

Meanwhile, Alias, as a representative to the Sarawak Police Force, thanked the state government and Hornbill Skyways Company for giving his team a chance to use the company’s hangar since 2000 until now.

According to him, the new Sarawak PGU base is likely to be realised in the near future.

Also present was the Sarawak Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) Logistics Department head Deputy Supt Alias Graman.
